Going Downhill Fast

Eva enjoyed 'Snakes On A Plane' for her in-flight entertainment.
Testing out sleds. No DVD or iPod option, but AC is standard.
I'm happy to be at the mountain. Kirsten is happy someone else is going to babysit me for a few hours.

Doing the 'aim & drop' approach to sitting down.
Going over the basics of navigating a 6- foot 5-inch 200-pound half-paralyzed man down 2.5 miles of mountain at over 400 miles per hour.
And we're off! Initial thoughts: am I really doing this?

Look at that blue sky. It was cold, but it was a stunningly beautiful day.
Mush doggy! Mush!
To our astonishment, we come upon a point where the mountain suddenly disappears.

This is why I came.
Starting to feel a bit more confident.
Uh-oh. Man down.

My father-in-law is empathic. He can feel my pain. But he also knows I wasn't keeping my knees bent and my shoulders downhill and is very, very disappointed in me.
Reviewing the basics of navigating a 6- foot 5-inch 200-pound half-paralyzed man down 2.5 miles of mountain at over 400 miles per hour.
Also, we've decided to add prayer to our strategy.

Actually, we're just putting duct tape on my left hand since I can't grip the outrigger ski.
Ah, duct tape. Is there anything you can't do?
Quick bathroom break. Man, I really had to go. Yellow snowcones for everyone! Actually, I just needed to stretch out a bit.

Soooooo much better.
Go that way. Really fast. If something gets in your way, turn.
We were so happy we just had to dance. And yes, Kirsten is leading.

58 words: I'm having so much fun I hope it never ends even though my toes are frozen and reality dictates we all have to get downhill someday but in this case sooner than later because it's like so close to when the lifts close but man I'm having fun and I'm so glad I made it this far alive!
I have finally hit bottom. Going downhill fast has never been so much fun.
Smile, you're on Ski-Cam-2007.

The sled has a little hydraulic doo-hickey to help get me up. The whole thing looks a little like something that scary kid in my high-school shop class would build, but infinitely less comfortable.
No seriously, it's an amazing piece of engineering and the people that helped me that day were too.
Me Scott. Big tree. Me forget sometimes me so tall. Me greatly appreciate willingness of others to cart me up and down mountain.

Eva got bit jealous and wanted in on some sledding action.
And she was so helpful to grandma.
Our little snow monkey.
